Republican Toni Hasenbeck Running for State Senate

Toni Hasenbeck, an Elgin Republican, will seek the Oklahoma State Senate District 31 seat in the 2016 Election. Current Senator Don Barrington is retiring due to term limits. The district covers parts of Comanche, Cotton, Jefferson, Stephens, and Tillman Counties.

Wife and Mom

Toni and her husband, Hank, live in Elgin. They have three children, Vivienne (18), William (14) and Henlea (7). Toni and Hank attend Fletcher Methodist Church, where Hank’s family has been members since the 1950’s.

A Lifetime in Education and Agriculture

Toni comes from an education and farming family. Her father, Butch Young, is a nationally known auctioneer. Toni graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from OSU and earned a Master’s Degree at Cameron.

Today, Toni teaches 7th grade at Elgin Public Schools. She previously taught at Fletcher and the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center in Duncan.

True to her roots, Toni and Hank own a cow-calf operation of their own outside of Elgin. They are longtime members of the Oklahoma Cattleman’s Association, and Hank is President of the Comanche County Spring Fair and Livestock Expo.

Small Business Family

Toni understands the important role family small businesses play in our local communities. Since 2002, Hank, a veterinarian, has operated Happy Hollow Animal Hospital in Elgin. Toni knows what it takes to meet budgets, make payrolls and create jobs in southwest Oklahoma.

Conservative Values

Toni is a conservative who supports traditional values like the right to life and traditional marriage. She is a member of the NRA. Toni supports limited government, lower taxes and fiscal responsibility. She believes we should spend less money on wasteful welfare programs and direct that money into better roads, schools and public safety.

“I love our area, and I’ll work hard every day in the Senate to help ensure a better future for all of us here in southwest Oklahoma,” Hasenbeck said.

In 2014, Hasenbeck was the Democrat nominee for the state House District 65 seat, falling just short of victory with almost 49% of the vote.

“First and foremost, I am a conservative who shares the same values that most people in our area hold,” Hasenbeck said. “More than party labels, we are committed to values like our faith, family, patriotism, independence, determination and work ethic.”

“Southwest Oklahoma has supported many Republican candidates, from Ronald Reagan and J.C. Watts to Mary Fallin, Gary Jones and Ann Coody, who were all previously registered as Democrats,” Hasenbeck said. “I hope I can earn that same kind of support. “

Coody ran unsuccessfully for the state House in 2002 as a Democrat but won the same seat in 2004 as a Republican.
